Brass handicrafts have been a traditional craft of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. They have been in vogue due to their durability, sturdiness and resistance to corrosion. Aligarh craftsmen boast of producing religious idols, animals, statues of famous leaders. These are not just popular in India but exported to countries across the world.

The base material is brass (60 percent copper and 40 percent zinc). Moulds are used for shaping in the sandcasting process which is then polished. Typically, the production is an assembly line process involving 30-40 craftsmen. Brass sculpting and engraving requires special skills and takes a lot of patience and care. It requires a high level of craftsmanship to finalize the designs and different types of training.

Brass items can add beauty to all the favourite corners of your home, office and have been the go-to for gifting on many occasions mainly as souvenirs.
